SCSI Hard Drive or sATA Hard Drive?

For eCommerce sites such as osCommerce, X-Cart Gold, X-Cart Pro and LiteCommerce sometimes spending the extra few dollars on a SCSI system is worth it's weight in gold!  Faster hard drives mean faster processing time, which relates to faster websites and less of a chance of a user leaving before completing the sale!

Think of the harddrive like a record (remember the old vinyl black frisbee? :))
Anyway, the records used to play at 33rpm (revolutions per minutes). The smaller ones would spin at 72rpm. That's esentially what you're doing with SCSI. The sATA's spin at 7200rpm, and the SCSI spin at 10,000rpm.

Now take RAID into account and you're putting TWO needles on the record, getting twice the amount of data in a single pass. The WRITE speed is still the same as you can only write with one needle at a time, but reading now means you can seek with TWO disks and get the results quicker.

Remember that EVERY request to the server is going through the memory. It must first get the data, store it in memory and then display to the web. If you run out of memory, processes take longer to finish. If there are too many requests, then the server slows down and when it gets REALLY bad it crashes.  So while picking your hard drive, keep in mind that you should beef up the memory options also!
